Maximize Your Business Leads with Facebook and LinkedIn ...

Throughout time, businesses, especially local-based operations, depended largely on what was known once as word-of-mouth that is now, in the full impetus of the online marketing generation, is known as networking.

Online networking basically comes in two formats ? either for business to business or business to consumer. Business to business networking can mean becoming a member of a local marketing Forum who offers to meet on a weekly or even monthly basis to discuss latest trends in the local business community.

Well most of the people at these meetings may not be involved in the same business; they will use these meeting places as an informal means of gathering local information that may result in contact and sales. In some cases networking forums of this nature may become national, multiplying opportunities to harvest leads.

As far as making contacts online with the same goal of lead gathering then one of the biggest mediums these days is undoubtedly LinkedIn, whose member base is growing at a tremendous rate. LinkedIn houses trade forums for every sector of business as well as for service providers covering every trade and industry sector. For any business, large or small, having an employee of two active on LinkedIn is a very worthwhile investment.

facebook-linkedin

Tremendously larger in scale but on a similar theme is Facebook. It goes without saying that the networking possibilities on this media giant are totally unlimited. Geared towards the business to consumer sector, maintaining a Facebook page can bring tremendous opportunities and will generate a tremendous number of business leads. What must be remembered when launching a Facebook page is to be ready for the massive influx of potential clientele and remember that these leads will generally be one off in nature.

For business owners who are looking for trade in the consumer sector and find the prospect of dealing with Facebook just a little daunting, a little research may help them to find local consumer marketing websites where they can establish a presence.? The obvious advantage for any marketing company that finds such a niche is that they will be a big fish in a small pool instead of being one of many hundreds of thousands reaching out for a market which will probably be less than relevant to them because of the geographical distances involved.

When it comes to setting a marketing leads harvesting policy, companies should sit down and decide exactly what they?re looking for and how to go about it with the minimum costs and maximum effect.? Being able to identify where the best opportunities lie to harvest marketing leads will save a lot of time, money and effort.

Bonanza of black holes, hot DOGs: NASA's WISE survey uncovers millions of black holes

ScienceDaily (Aug. 29, 2012) ? NASA's Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) mission has led to a bonanza of newfound supermassive black holes and extreme galaxies called hot DOGs, or dust-obscured galaxies.

Images from the telescope have revealed millions of dusty black hole candidates across the universe and about 1,000 even dustier objects thought to be among the brightest galaxies ever found. These powerful galaxies, which burn brightly with infrared light, are nicknamed hot DOGs.

"WISE has exposed a menagerie of hidden objects," said Hashima Hasan, WISE program scientist at NASA Headquarters in Washington. "We've found an asteroid dancing ahead of Earth in its orbit, the coldest star-like orbs known and now, supermassive black holes and galaxies hiding behind cloaks of dust."

WISE scanned the whole sky twice in infrared light, completing its survey in early 2011. Like night-vision goggles probing the dark, the telescope captured millions of images of the sky. All the data from the mission have been released publicly, allowing astronomers to dig in and make new discoveries.

The latest findings are helping astronomers better understand how galaxies and the behemoth black holes at their centers grow and evolve together. For example, the giant black hole at the center of our Milky Way galaxy, called Sagittarius A*, has 4 million times the mass of our sun and has gone through periodic feeding frenzies where material falls towards the black hole, heats up and irradiates its surroundings. Bigger central black holes, up to a billion times the mass of our sun, may even shut down star formation in galaxies.

In one study, astronomers used WISE to identify about 2.5 million actively feeding supermassive black holes across the full sky, stretching back to distances more than 10 billion light-years away. About two-thirds of these objects never had been detected before because dust blocks their visible light. WISE easily sees these monsters because their powerful, accreting black holes warm the dust, causing it to glow in infrared light.

"We've got the black holes cornered," said Daniel Stern of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, Calif., lead author of the WISE black hole study and project scientist for another NASA black-hole mission, the Nuclear Spectroscopic Telescope Array (NuSTAR). "WISE is finding them across the full sky, while NuSTAR is giving us an entirely new look at their high-energy X-ray light and learning what makes them tick."

In two other WISE papers, researchers report finding what are among the brightest galaxies known, one of the main goals of the mission. So far, they have identified about 1,000 candidates.

These extreme objects can pour out more than 100 trillion times as much light as our sun. They are so dusty, however, that they appear only in the longest wavelengths of infrared light captured by WISE. NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope followed up on the discoveries in more detail and helped show that, in addition to hosting supermassive black holes feverishly snacking on gas and dust, these DOGs are busy churning out new stars.

"These dusty, cataclysmically forming galaxies are so rare WISE had to scan the entire sky to find them," said Peter Eisenhardt, lead author of the paper on the first of these bright, dusty galaxies, and project scientist for WISE at JPL. "We are also seeing evidence that these record setters may have formed their black holes before the bulk of their stars. The 'eggs' may have come before the 'chickens.'"

More than 100 of these objects, located about 10 billion light-years away, have been confirmed using the W.M. Keck Observatory on Mauna Kea, Hawaii, as well as the Gemini Observatory in Chile, Palomar's 200-inch Hale telescope near San Diego, and the Multiple Mirror Telescope Observatory near Tucson, Ariz.

The WISE observations, combined with data at even longer infrared wavelengths from Caltech's Submillimeter Observatory atop Mauna Kea, revealed that these extreme galaxies are more than twice as hot as other infrared-bright galaxies. One theory is their dust is being heated by an extremely powerful burst of activity from the supermassive black hole.

"We may be seeing a new, rare phase in the evolution of galaxies," said Jingwen Wu of JPL, lead author of the study on the submillimeter observations. All three papers are being published in the Astrophysical Journal.

The three technical journal articles, including PDFs, can be found at http://arxiv.org/abs/1205.0811, http://arxiv.org/abs/1208.5517 and http://arxiv.org/abs/1208.5518 .

JPL manages and operates WISE for NASA's Science Mission Directorate, Washington. The principal investigator, Edward Wright, is at UCLA. The mission was competitively selected under NASA's Explorers Program managed by the Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, Md. The science instrument was built by the Space Dynamics Laboratory, Logan, Utah, and the spacecraft was built by Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp., Boulder, Colo. Science operations and data processing and archiving take place at the Infrared Processing and Analysis Center at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena. Caltech manages JPL for NASA.

Iran will never stop uranium enrichment: envoy

Iran "will never stop" its controversial uranium enrichment, the country's envoy to the IAEA said on Tuesday, on the sidelines of a Non-Aligned Movement ministerial meeting in Tehran.

"Our enrichment activities will never stop and we are justified in carrying them out, and we will continue to do so under IAEA supervision," Ali Asghar Soltanieh told reporters.

"We will not give up our inalienable right to enrichment," he said.

The defiant reaffirmation of Iran's position underscored a showdown between the Islamic republic and the UN's International Atomic Energy Agency, and the UN Security Council.

The Security Council has repeatedly demanded Iran cease its uranium enrichment and has imposed four sets of sanctions on the country, which have been greatly reinforced by separate US and EU sanctions.

The five permanent members of the Security Council, plus Germany, also this year engaged in three rounds of face-to-face negotiations with Iran on the issue, but they ended in an impasse, with contact downgraded to telephone calls between Iranian and EU officials.

Iran's enrichment is to again be raised this week, when the IAEA is expected to release its latest report based on its ongoing inspections of Iran's nuclear facilities.

Some of the report's findings have already been leaked to Israeli and US media, mainly those confirming a July 25 statement by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad that hundreds more uranium enrichment centrifuges had been installed.

Iran's refusal to allow inspectors into a military base outside Tehran, Parchin, could also form part of the report.

Western diplomats last week told AFP that months of clean-up work detected at Parchin suggested the site had been "sanitized" to such an extent that a nuclear inspection would now be pointless.

Soltanieh responded by saying that Parchin "has been blown out of proportion" and said claims of nuclear warhead design tests there were "fabricated by foreign intelligence."

He said Iran was demanding to see the documents the IAEA was using to pursue its suspicions about Parchin and urged the agency to "close this chapter."

He also said Iran has complained to the IAEA about the leaks.

On Iran's intent to continue enriching uranium, Soltanieh noted that the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and the IAEA's statutes made no explicit mention of levels of enrichment.

"The level of enrichment and how much to enrich has not been fixed in either of those. There is no limitation," he said.

"Everything we do is under the supervision of the agency," he stressed.

The United States and its Western allies, and Israel, suspect that Iran is intent on developing nuclear weapons "break-out" capability.

Iran denies that, saying its nuclear programme is purely for civilian use.

Laptops, Computers, Technology, Tablets - Colour Laser Printers ...

As the technology behind popular printers, like the popular Dell all in one printers becomes ever more sophisticated, it is increasingly easier for the average customer to become lost in the constant stream of updates, configurations, capabilities and features of a product whose manufacturers consistently strive to one-up each other.

There is no standard for determining what makes one printer better than another. Ultimately, the decision to go with a certain product will depend on a combination of the features most desirable for each individual customer. For example, a typical family of four would not care much about print speed or whether or not the photographs a certain printer produces are of professional quality, but affordability and ease of maintenance might be primary concerns.

Additionally, small business owners might look more heavily into the faxing and emailing capabilities of all in one printers and care less about the scanning function; an amateur historian or small-town journalist might care very deeply about the quality of scans a certain machine delivers.

It might be advantageous for a consumer to look into specific features of a printer as well as its all-around capability to decide whether or not a particular printer is right.

Is the printer cloud capable? For a small business, it might help to be able to print straight from the cloud. Though their network may not be as expansive as some larger corporations, smaller businesses with traveling employees need to be able to access and print data just as quickly if they are to stay competitive.

Not every family or business has a resident wireless technology expert, so when wireless printers function slowly or not at all, it could be important to have an Ethernet port--which some wireless printers don't--to provide a second connection option.

While sticker price might be the first thing potential purchasers look at--and rightly so--ink and/or toner prices are the primary contributor to maintenance costs. If a consumer does not pay attention to how easy it will be to keep cartridges filled, then he or she might end up paying as much as or more than the printer for ink and toner.

Some amateur or professional photographers do not have the time or materials or simply don't want to upload pictures to a computer, save them and then print them out. For these people, printers that can print directly from a digital camera via PictBridge or a similar device aren't just convenient, they're necessary.

Even if a printer is old, it may have the opportunity to be upgraded through cutting-edge applications sold online by the printer's manufacturer. Unfortunately, many don't have that opportunity. If it's important to keep a printer up to date, this capability becomes a primary concern.

Just as with their customers, each printer is unique. In most cases, it's not a matter of better or worse, but what's right for the customer. Before buying an all in one printer, a savvy customer will first find out what specs he or she desires in a product, and make the decision based on that.

Apple lists 8 Samsung products it wants banned

5 hrs.

Apple Inc. on Monday submitted a list of eight Samsung Electronics Co. products it wants pulled from shelves and banned from the U.S. market.

Apple submitted the list after a jury found Samsung copied the iPhone and iPad in creating and marketing the products.

The products are: Galaxy S 4G, Galaxy S2 AT&T, Galaxy S2, Galaxy S2 T-Mobile, Galaxy S2 Epic 4G, Galaxy S Showcase, Droid Charge and Galaxy Prevail.

A judge will decide the issue later.

Apple claimed in a sweeping lawsuit that Samsung's smartphones and computer tablets "slavishly copied" the iPhones and iPads. Samsung countered with its own claims that Apple used its wireless technology without proper compensation.

A nine-person jury in its verdict last week unanimously agreed with Apple and ordered Samsung to pay $1 billion. Most of the damages were tied to Samsung's smartphones. It rejected Samsung's counterclaims.

The award represents about 1.5 percent of Samsung's annual revenue. Analysts said the embarrassment of the verdict is a bigger blow for Samsung than the financial setback.

Still, the question remains whether Samsung and other Apple competitors will have to redesign their smartphones to avoid infringing Apple's patents. Most analysts agree the verdict sends a threatening message to device makers like Samsung who use Google's Android operating system.

Cloud Accounting Startup FreshBooks Launches An iPhone App, So Users Can Do Invoicing On The Go

FreshBooksCloud accounting startup FreshBooks is designed to make billing, invoicing, tracking expenses, and managing customer relationships easier for small and medium-sized businesses. The company now wants to take that a step further by providing its users with an iPhone app that will allow them to do all those things--and more--from wherever they are. In the past, small business owners would have to wait until they got back to their offices to do certain accounting tasks, like entering time or tracking expenses from on the job. With the new app, FreshBooks users can now instantly create invoices, manage client information, track time that they've spent with clients and expenses, create estimates, and get reports based on the information they enter.

(AP) ? The founder of a dog sanctuary at NFL star Michael Vick's former dogfighting compound said Monday that she was shocked to learn that she faces charges of animal cruelty and inadequate care of animals.

Tamira Thayne said in a telephone interview from her Dogs Deserve Better operation in Surry County that she read a newspaper report about the charges, but had neither spoken to authorities nor been served warrants.

"I know nothing about it," Thayne said. "I just got home from my honeymoon in St. Lucia. Apparently I was abusing dogs while I was gone."

Surry County Chief Animal Control Officer Tracy Terry said her office received complaints that led to an investigation, and the results prompted her to file the charges Friday. She declined to say specifically what led to the charges, but said Thayne should not be surprised.

"There's certain things I just can't disclose right now," the officer said.

A hearing is set for Sept. 25 in Surry County General District Court on the inadequate care charge. No hearing date is set on the cruelty count. Both charges are misdemeanors.

Thayne insisted she and her employees have done nothing wrong.

"We take special pains to make sure our dogs are safe and happy," she said. "They have a great life here. Vick tortured dogs to death and never once got charged with animal cruelty. Somebody needs to tell me what the hell is going on here."

Vick, the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback, served 18 months in prison after pleading guilty in federal court to participating in an interstate dogfighting conspiracy. The enterprise operated out of his five-bedroom home and 15-acre property in rural Surry County, which he sold to a developer after he was charged. Thayne's organization bought the former Bad Newz Kennels property last year for about $600,000 and turned it into a sanctuary for dogs that have been chained and penned.

Terry said Dogs Deserve Better has been operating without state approval.

"The state veterinarian told her in January they were not going to approve her until she rectified some things," Terry said.

Thayne said she thought she was in good graces with the government.

"They told us to do certain things and we did them, and I haven't heard from them," she said. "To my knowledge, we've done everything they asked us to do."

Thayne said her facility currently is caring for nine dogs, including her personal pet. She said they all live in the house, not out back where Vick and his associates kept dogs penned and chained and put them through brutal test fights. According to court papers in the cases of Vick and his codefendants, Vick bankrolled the operation and joined others in killing some dogs that did not perform well in the tests.

Since his release from prison in 2009, Vick has worked with the Humane Society of the United States to stop organized animal fighting.

A CUP OF JO: Motherhood Mondays: What's the best age gap ...

I've noticed something interesting about people...

Now and again, I'll ask a friend, "Ideally, how many years apart would you want to have kids?" And the funny thing is, their answer is almost always the same as the age gap between their own siblings and themselves, back when they were growing up.

Personally, I have a twin sister and a brother who is three years younger. And voila, now that Toby is three-years-minus-nine-months, I'm itching to have a second baby. I think three years feels like a great age gap: you're close enough in age to play together, and you'll cross over in middle school and high school, but you're not so close that your parents will go nuts having two teeny guys in diapers at the same time. :)

But obviously, lots of different age gaps can work beautifully. So, I'm really curious: How far apart would you want to have kids? What's your sibling age gap? Do they match? Or are you an only child? I'd LOVE to hear...

Who is Most Generous? | New Vintage Leadership

How America givesRecently, the Chronicle of Philanthropy published it?s study on charitable giving. As is often the case, data beats stereotypes when it comes to generosity. Here are some quotes from their study:

  • ?Religion has a big influence on giving patterns. Regions of the country that are deeply religious are more generous than those that are not. Two of the top nine states?Utah and Idaho?have high numbers of Mormon residents, who have a tradition of tithing at least 10 percent of their income to the church. The remaining states in the top nine are all in the Bible Belt.?
  • ?When religious giving isn?t counted, the geography of giving is very different. Some states in the Northeast jump into the top 10 when secular gifts alone are counted. New York would vault from No. 18 to No. 2, and Pennsylvania would climb from No. 40 to No. 4.?
  • ?The reasons for the discrepancies among states, cities, neighborhoods are rooted in part in each area?s political philosophy about the role of government versus charity.?

One other point of interest was that middle class and upper middle class families give a proportionately larger percentage of their income than the wealthy or poor. The Chronicle?s analysis suggests the poor can?t do more, and the rich don?t know the stories behind charitable causes because they often are in proximity to real stories of poverty, etc.

Here?s something we all need to think about:

?And as the nation seeks to recover from the worst economic slide since the Great Depression, the cities and states with the most-generous residents may be in a better position to help the millions of people still suffering from joblessness and other financial setbacks, say experts.

?There?s a storm coming,? says Bruce Katz, vice president at the Brookings Institution and an expert on the nation?s cities. ?Which places are prepared??

Mr. Katz says local governments should be thinking hard about how to encourage giving because ?we don?t have the welfare programs that we have had in the past. The need for individual giving is greater than it has been in modern memory.?

Hopefully, we are prepared to help. We will be better equipped if we cultivate generosity in our congregations now. Not only will facilitate ministry that helps lead people to Jesus, it will equip the church to serve the less fortunate in ways the government cannot or will not.

One last thought: there is no correlation between wealth, employment rate, etc. and proportion of income given?other than a slightly negative correlation. People don?t give based on income size. They give based on worldview. This is a lesson the church should learn from the story of the Widow?s Mite, but it?s good to see it played out modern-day as well. Generosity is expected of all followers of Jesus (rich or poor), and it flows not from a full wallet?but from a full heart (rich or poor).

The economy is tough. I know?we just planted a church in a town with double-digit unemployment, and remains over 9%. Nevertheless, I?ve seen amazing acts of insane generosity from people with both little and much?and ungodly greed from both rich and poor. It?s not about size of the wallet. It?s about the size of the Gospel in a person. Or, better put by a far better teacher: Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Click here to explore the giving in your neighborhood or any place you want. For instance, on average, people in New Vintage Church?s zip code give 4.4% of their income to charity. An interesting question is, are Christians any more/less generous than the average person?

Question: Did anything in the study surprise you? Why do you think Bible-belters and the middle-class/upper-middle class give a higher percentage of their income?

4 Signs for Women to Check Out Every Morning - Health Niche

If you have a close look on your body, there will be number of symptoms you can detect beforehand. Also, you will easily figure out sudden changes like skin marks, white patches and others. A
human body shows numerous changes as an indication that a serious disease is developing. And, if you catch the signs early, remedy and treatment is possible before it?s too late.

This means you have to check out your body for any unusual signs. And, this you should do every morning. Here are 4 of those signs.

1. Bright White Stripes on Nails

White Stripes on Nails

Everybody has white spots on their nails at some or the other point of time. But if there are long white stripes that are horizontal and show discoloration on the surface of the nail then it indicates you are fatigued. And, it is your kidneys that will suffer. This is an indication of your kidneys not able to filter protein from urine. And, this might result in kidney failure.

2. Thin Hair on Scalp

Extreme hair loss indicates thyroid disorder. When you see many hair strands on your hair brush, it means your thyroid gland has gone out of order. This will make your hair fragile and rough. Go and
consult a doctor. He would figure out if this level is too high or too less. And, provide you medication for the same.

3. Undereye Circles that don?t Fade Away

Undereye Circles

If you don?t stay up late or have excessive work to do and then too you have dark circles that refuse to go away, indications are that you are developing allergies. In this case, you have to consult a
doctor; he would suggest you to get a test done. On the basis of its result, the allergen that is causing dark circles will be known.

4. Dark, Rough Skin in Armpits

Rough Skin
If you are not obsessed with self-tanning then this might be the result of diabetes. Abnormal levels of insulin in bloodstream results in multiplication of skin cells rapidly. And, as a result skin looks
thicker and darker. Get a test for diabetes done to determine whether you suffer from the disease or not.

There are many signs you need to be aware of. Don?t ignore even a small skin eruption or a red/white mark. At once, consult a physician and confirm the cause of abnormal signs.

The World's Longest Bus Is a Traffic Nightmare Waiting To Happen [Transportation]

Public transit is a great way to reduce traffic and gridlock in a crowded city. But do those benefits still apply when the streets are filled with 100 foot buses like the Fraunhofer Institute's AutoTram Extra Grand? Forget tight corners; this thing might not even make it through a green light. More »

Subject: Atos ? Stop Making Profits From The Sick And Disabled

Dear Sir/Madam,

Your sister company Atos Healthcare makes profits by carrying out Work Capability Assessments for the the DWP on the sick and disabled. Studies have shown these assessments to be highly inaccurate. Over 70% of Atos decisions declaring sick and disabled people as ?fit for work? are overturned on appeal, with the help of an advice centre, which the public have to pay for. Both Channel 4?s Dispatches and BBC?s Panorama programmes shown recently exposed the brutal reality of Work Capability Assessments. It has been shown that Atos set targets of passing only 12 to 13% as unfit for work. The process is driven by cost cutting not objective medical opinion. The Government with the help of Atos are cutting benefits to reduce the public debt caused by bankers gambling on the financial markets. The most vulnerable in society are being made to pay for the greed of bankers and the inevitable booms and busts of capitalist economics.

Please pass this message on to your bosses: Stop making profits from the sick and disabled.

Dance Can Be An Effective Exercise In The Fight Against Childhood

Childhood obesity is already a very serious and disturbing problem in the United States of America and many parts of Europe where obesity in general is increasing. The problem looks set to spread to other parts of the world as their standard of living improves.A diet with a high fat, sugar and salt intake and a sedentary lifestyle have all been major contributing factors in childhood obesity. As a result children are getting Type 2 diabetes and other illnesses usually associated with middle age. We have a generation of children who may well die before their parents.

It seems that the present generation is no longer keen on traditional competitive team games. Modern technology has led to children wanting to entertain themselves and to be personally in charge of the activity. Television and computer games loom large in their lives.

Overweight and obese children need to follow a strict weight loss regime and take increased exercise to help burn up the calories. The difficulty is that children who have a problem with their weight don?t enjoy the changes in their eating habits and are unenthusiastic about exercise. Cajoling, bribery, and threats do not work. The trick is to find an activity which burns calories but is not necessarily immediately seen as exercise. It also needs to be interesting and fun. This is where dance comes into its? own as a calorie burning aerobic form of exercise.

Dance, partially due to television shows, is now the ?in? way to exercise. Increasing numbers of people are using dance workouts as a way of exercising. You don?t need to be a great dancer to enjoy the health benefits of dancing. The main purpose is to enjoy moving to music and music plays a large role in young peoples lives these days

Dancing can be a really good Mind-Body-Spirit workout. Physical activity in general keeps body and brain healthy by increasing the amounts of brain chemicals that encourage nerve cells to grow. Dance helps people of all ages and physical limitations to get and stay in shape. There is chair and wheelchair dancing for people (including children) who have mobility difficulties.

The benefits of dancing are the same as other low-impact weight bearing activities such as walking fast, cycling or aerobics. This form of exercise also strengthens bones and muscles without stressing the joints. It tones the whole body and improves posture and balance. There is an increase in stamina and flexibility and a reduction in stress and tension which are often a problem for overweight children.

There are numerous forms of dance which may appeal to children and which could help in the battle against childhood obesity

Hip Hop and Capoeira are two dance forms which children may find appealing. Capoeira is a Brazilian hybrid dance and martial art. Cardio Capoeira is very challenging indeed. An exercise session involves heavy sparring (i.e dancing ) that can be done either solo or with a partner. It involves a lot of kicking, spinning and cartwheels. In this workout the buttocks, quadriceps and hamstrings are really exercised due to the multiple repetitions of a deep side-to-side lunge which links one capoeira movement to the next.

Cardio Salsa is a low-impact but high intensity workout combining prcise, fast-paced Latin choreography ? merengue, mambo, cha-cha, samba ? with traditional aerobic dance steps (such as the grapevine), repeated lunges, and arm raises. The great advantage of this exercise programme is that what is learned can be practised on the dance floor. Knowing the steps and being able to move to complex rhythms is likely to increase self-confidence and poise.

Masala Bhangra , is a challenging workout, based on the traditional folk dance of India. It involves a choreographed series of hops, foot stomping and hip gyrations accompanied by hip-hop influenced bhangra music and live drumming. Most moves are performed while vigorously shaking the arms at 45 degree angles to the side of the body and doing multiple, rapid-fire shoulder raises. This form of dance workout results in firm arms and sculpted shoulders. The same sort of classes are also known as Bhangra Aerobics.

There is now a dance form which is proving highly popular with people in general and is proving to be a great hit with children. The video game Dance Dance Revolution (D.D.R) is made by Konami of Japan where it was located in arcades in that country. It is now more usually played on Sony?s PlayStation 2 and Microsoft?s box game consoles. There are a number of other games such as Red Octanes?s In the Groove, Pump It Up, Exceed, Dance Along and Para Para Paradise.

The video game Dance Dance Revolution and other such games may be a means of helping children loose weight. As a song plays (and all sorts of music is suitable) arrows pointing forward, back, left and right, appear on the screen in various sequences and combinations. The players must step on the matching arrows on a mat on the floor. Players can dance by themselves, with a partner or in competition

Some states in the U.S are already using it as a regular part of their physical education curriculum. Dance Dance Revolution offers exercise without children having to possess the skills demanded by sport and games. As a result it appeals to children across the board.

A study was carried out last year in Rochester, Minn. an area which has a particularly severe problem with childhood obesity. The research team from the Mayo Clinic found that children playing Dance Dance Revolution used significantly more energy than children watching television and playing traditional video games. D.D.R does meet standards for aerobic fitness by raising the heart rate sufficiently for the required period of time.

In Redmond, Oregon In the Groove was installed in third and fourth grade classrooms for a five-month study. The most ?at risk? students were chosen to become ?Groove Masters?, mentors to other children. Some of the results from the study included:-

1. Absenteeism dropped by more than 50%

2. According to teachers, 85% of the mentors grew in social skills

3. 94% of the students who took part showed increases in leadership skills and confidence, which increased self-esteem and improved academic performance.

4. 4th grade students who took part in the study improved their mile run by 13.8%

5.Students became more enthusiastic about sports, fitness and dance,

The games were shown to give a good aerobic workout and to assist in weight loss, a very important factor in the battle against childhood obesity.

Dr Debra Liebermann of the Dept. of Communications, at UC Santa Barbara calls this video activity ?exergaming?. She described Dance Dance Revolution as a game, a social activity, a dance and performance platform, a workout and weight loss tool, and a classroom and workplace activity. She lists a number of reasons for its appeal:- the games challenges, the music, the joy of movement, the work out, and social interactions.

There are versions that allow aerobic instructors to work with a group.

Dr Liebermann?s conclusions regarding these games was that they ?make a very positive contribution to player?s stress management, weight management, fitness and health?.

This is perhaps a form of dance which will be acceptable to overweight children in that it is a fun happening which they will be happy to take part in.

Parents do take medical advice before putting your overweight child on a diet and exercise programme.

If children are not immediately attracted to a specific kind of dance ? experiment. There?s a dance out there for everyone. Have fun finding it!

How Taking Action Will Help You Get Rid of Your Belly Fat | NOLA ...

Taking massive amounts of action can help you get rid of your belly fat a lot faster than usual because keep in mind that doing a large amount of ab workouts for women requires a large amount of motivation. It will not be possible for you to realistically push yourself as hard as you can during your workouts if you do not have sufficient levels of motivation and dedication. So in addition to focusing on a good exercise and diet routine you also need to focus on appropriate motivational methodologies so you can get results.

So what types of motivational methodologies will allow you to get results without ruining your ability to keep on moving forward. Well one of the first things you need to do here is focus on ab exercises for women that will allow you to enjoy significant results while not ruining your ability to keep cortisol in check. Because not only will cortisol burn through lean muscle tissue, but it can also have a negative impact on your mind. Also, do not expect to feel highly motivated if you do not have a large amount of action taking place.

Ironically, a lot of times you have to get moving before you feel a large amount of motivation within your body. So try to really take action quickly if you do not feel motivated and then wait until that motivation begins to run through your body. If you have motivation going to your body at a rapid pace you will be able to get better results in a timely manner. On the other hand, if you are not sufficiently motivated to move forward it is going to be very difficult for you to keep on getting results in a timely manner. Additionally, remember that negativity also has to be addressed in both the short-term and the long-term. Because having large amounts of negativity is never good for you and can actually ruin your ability to enjoy success.

U.N. nuclear watchdog, Iran reach no deal on bomb probe

VIENNA (Reuters) - The United Nations nuclear watchdog and Iran failed on Friday to reach an agreement aimed at resolving deepening concern about suspected nuclear weapons research by Tehran and a senior U.N. official said no further talks were scheduled.

"The discussions today were intensive but important differences remain between Iran and the U.N. that prevented agreement," Herman Nackaerts, the International Atomic Energy Agency's chief inspector, told journalists after about seven hours of talks with an Iranian delegation in Vienna.

"At the moment we have no plans for another meeting."

Iran's ambassador to the IAEA, Ali Asghar Soltanieh, said that "undoubtedly some progress" was made but that differences remained.

"Because it is a very complex issue ... issues related to national security of a member state are something very delicate," he said. "But I have to say that we are moving forward ... and we are going to continue this process so that we at the end of the day will have a framework agreed by both sides."

'Weird week' in Lubbock after 'civil war' comments

Stephen Spillman / Lubbock Avalanche-Journal

Lubbock County Judge Tom Head, right, talks with Texas Governor Rick Perry in Lubbock, Tex. on May 8.

By Kari Huus, NBC News

The arid West Texas community of Lubbock found itself in the national spotlight after a county judge asserted on television that if President Barak Obama is reelected, the country will be under threat of invasion by the United Nations and should brace for a possible civil war.

The comments, made by Lubbock County Judge Thomas Head in a bid to raise local property taxes, have prompted Democrats to call for his resignation. They?ve also generated a busy, and awkward, week for some local Republicans.

"It?s been a weird week," said Carl Tepper, chairman of the Lubbock County Republican Party, who has been deluged by calls from around the country.

"I don?t agree with the tax raise. I don?t agree that the U.N. is invading the U.S. I?m not a conspiracy theorist," Tepper told NBC News Friday. "The great majority of Lubbock, Texas, does not agree with Judge Head on this issue."

The furor started on Tuesday evening when Head appeared on a local Fox television station to drum up support for a 1.7 percent tax increase to bolster the county budget. Head?s comments veered into his concerns about civil unrest in the event of Obama?s election to a second term.

"He?s going to try to hand over the sovereignty of the United States to the U.N., and what is going to happen when that happens?" Head said. "I?m thinking the worst. Civil unrest, civil disobedience, civil war maybe. And we?re not just talking a few riots here and demonstrations. We?re talking Lexington, Concord, take up arms and get rid of the guy."

"Now what?s going to happen if we do that, if the public decides to do that? He?s going to send in U.N. troops. I don?t want ?em in Lubbock County. OK. So I?m going to stand in front of their armored personnel carrier and say, 'You?re not coming in here'."

On Wednesday, Head said his remarks were taken out of context, and he meant them as a worst-case scenario, according toa?report in?Lubbock Avalanche Journal.?

He did not respond to NBC calls for comment.?

At a news conference on Thursday, Kenny Ketner, chairman of the Lubbock County Democratic Party charged that Head?s impartiality as a judge had been violated as a result of the comments,?according to the Journal report.?

"Public officials have greater responsibility not to spout off about conspiracies and extremist fantasies,"?Ketner said.

"Judge Head?s statements on the United Nations invasion raise serious questions about his mental competency to hold elected office," according to the Texas state Democratic chair Gilberto Hinojosa, cited by a report in the Houston Chronicle.

Head?s comment is "not only ridiculous, it?s dangerous. It?s crystal clear that Judge Head should resign,"?Hinojosa added.

Head's is an elected county judge; his position is not slated for a vote until 2014.?

Tepper, of the Lubbock Republican Party, said he does not expect efforts for Head?s removal to gain any traction.

He said that while most people disagree with Head?s comments, there are concerns about federal policies that affect Lubbock, a community 300 miles west of Dallas that relies heavily on ranching and oil. ?

"I have had a lot of people who are concerned with the Obama administration and their national environmental agendas," said Tepper. "This is an energy part of the country. When drilling is limited (by regulations) and the use of coal is limited, that is of great concern to the voters and the people of West Texas."

But he said Lubbock, Texas, was really "Lubbock, America," a nice family oriented community that has oil, cotton and cowboys, as well as sophistication and a diverse set of views.?

"We are very conservative, but I want to stress we have respect for the president, and for the federal government,"?Tepper said. "If we don?t like the president, we will try to beat him in the voting booth."

Therapy Methods in Sex Addiction Rehab Centers | Articles Reference

Sexual addiction is a form of hyper-sexuality that exhibits itself in constant sexual urges and various sexual behaviors that have negative impacts on those around the addict. Some medical experts define sex addiction as a form of clinical addiction similar to an alcoholic or narcotic abuser. Sexual addiction has been described as a progressive intimacy disorder that is pursued by compulsive sexual thoughts and eventually sexual acts.

Sexual addiction has been defined as a persistent and escalating pattern of behavior that is generally characterized to be sexual in nature.

Therapy Method of Education

As in many conditions and disorders, change happens with education. In sex addiction rehab centers, the therapy starts with education for the individual and also a spouse. The other component of education is there comes a time when the sex addict must admit he or she is a sex addict. That is the point at which change can start occurring. Total recovery is unlikely with only an education course, but all recovery has to start with the first step.

Therapy Method of Counseling for Individuals and Couples

Another therapy method sex addiction rehab centers utilize is counseling. Counseling will, no doubt, begin with the sex addict, but to be truly successful, when a spouse is involved, the counseling must extend to the spouse.

The counseling will be with a mental health professional who specializes in sex addiction. The reason for this is every addiction is different. Therefore, therapy must be specific to be effective. In counseling, reasons for the addiction must be discussed, which can be done in a safe environment that is aiming for change, rather than condemnation.

If the counseling comes down to sessions with a spouse or a partner, both must want to make the relationship work if the therapeutic counseling will be effective.

Therapy Method of Medication

Medication is not the first remedy in this situation, but it may be added in some situations. The medication is a curative for compulsive behavior. Again, it comes to sex addiction being a behavior that has to be adjusted. The other type of medication that may be recommended is an anti-depressive or anti-anxiety medication. Sex addiction rehab centers recognize that anxiety and depression are two emotions that occur when an effort is made to change an addictive compulsive behavior.

Honey Boo Boo forced to give up pet pig

TLC

By Us Weekly

Goodbye, Glitzy!

On Wednesday's episode of "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo," 6-year-old Alana Thompson was forced to part ways with her beloved pet pig, Glitzy, when she and her three siblings neglected to take care of the animal to Mama June Shannon's liking.

PHOTOS: Celebs and their pets

"Right now, I think we've got enough pets for every boy in China," reasoned Mama, who became especially agitated that she was continually losing sleep to tend to the swine in the early morning hours. "What's best for Glitzy is that he go back to the breeder and find a home who can devote the time to him."

VIDEO: Honey Boo Boo professes her love for Glitzy

Shannon's partner, Mike "Sugar Bear" Thompson, and Honey Boo Boo were shocked and saddened when the family matriarch put her foot down.

"I don't want him to go," Honey Boo Boo yelped before bursting into tears. "Glitzy was going to be my good luck charm (at pageants). He loves me!" The precocious pageant queen's father, Sugar Bear, also fought back tears, pleading with his family to let the pig stay.

VIDEO: Mama says extreme couponing is better than sex

Though Honey Boo Boo had intended to bring her pig pal along when she competed in beauty pageants, the "Toddlers & Tiaras" alum later realized that she was doing what's best for Glitzy.

"He really does need a new home, but I'm going to miss him," she admitted.

Since leaving the Thompson family's home, Glitzy has returned to his Georgia-based breeder, Posh Pigs. "Glitzy's daily routine is pretty much the same as it was before he left," Posh Pigs' Angela writes on the company's website. "He is fed breakfast at 7 a.m. and dinner at 7 p.m. He gets a visitor every morning ... my chihuahua goes in with me to feed and joins them for breakfast!" Posh Pigs is looking to place Glitzy in a new "forever home," with proceeds from his sale going to animal rescue efforts.

George Page of Sea Breeze Farm - Small Business Trends

Technology has certainly changed the way we do business and it?s impacted one particular family run business in a very special way. George Page, Founder of Sea Breeze Farm, an organic restaurant on Vashon Island off the coast of Seattle, joins Brent Leary to discuss how he developed business apps that run on the iPad to help his employees become more productive and efficient.

* * * * *

George Page Founder of Sea Breeze FarmSmall Business Trends: Can you talk a little bit about Sea Breeze Farm, what do you guys do?

George Page: Well, we started out just a small hobby family farm that grew rapidly into a suite of small integrated micro businesses as I like to call them.

In addition to the farm, which consists of primarily livestock, we have a small dairy, we milk a dozen cows, we raise pigs and chickens for meat, and chickens for eggs and we raise ducks. On top of that, we have added a small scale winery and a cheese making operation.

In addition, we have a small scale butcher shop where we make bacon, ham, pates and cured meats. ?We also have a small farm-to-table organic restaurant attached to that.

We operate at the local Seattle area farmers market, selling our product on a weekly basis year round.

Small Business Trends: How are you able to manage all of that?

George Page: My method for tracking business information and processing all of the different regulatory paperwork and issues has really evolved organically. ?Just like the business. ?So it has been a process of discovery.

From my perspective, running into a problem, I have to track this information. ?How do I do it? ?Well, let me get a piece of paper and make a list. ?Okay, that is kind of clunky. How about Excel? ?I remember that tool can do some cool stuff. ?So we started usng Excel and spreadsheets and that started to get clunky. ?It just seemed like there was something missing. ?Something that could really make integrated information more dynamic and more relational.

It was at that point that I discovered FileMaker. ?It is a simple to use a point and click, drag and drop interface and design your own database tool. That was revolutionary. ?That has taken me in a whole new direction.

Small Business Trends: So you went from using the spreadsheets to creating a new database? How has that impacted the way you do business?

George Page: It has provided a scenario where we can interrelate a lot of business information. ?The whole point of the database really is to eliminate data redundancy, and data entry redundancy.

If you put something into your system you don?t want to have to do it again, whether it is an employees? name or contact information, or maybe information on the wine that you made this year like the varietal one, the vineyard, all of that sort of the stuff.

In addition, it provides a repository to keep all of your information in one interrelated location so you can find stuff. I would say that is probably the biggest part of it. ?Just having all of your information accessible at your fingertips.

I guess I would say the other piece is that it is able to import that to a really dynamic, slick, user interface environment like the iPad. ?That really is sexy and appealing to employees and customers alike.

Small Business Trends: Talk a little bit about the iPad. ?How are you using it from a retailing perspective?

George Page: It has been driven by the restaurant environment where it started out by just creating a simple invoicing system for the iPad. ?There are a lot of simple startup solutions FileMaker provides for you when you get up and running within a few hours and have your invoicing system in place.

My natural inclination was wanting to take that to another level and apply it to our restaurant, which is an environment where a typical invoicing system is a little clunky and awkward. ?Because you are running tickets for a line. You need a touch screen so you can find stuff really quick and you have dynamic menu items that are changing on a daily basis for a farm-to-table seasonal restaurant.

I took it to the next level and took an invoicing backend solution from FileMaker and tweaked it into a touch screen interface that you can use on an iPad. ?My employees can take orders on the iPad with a touch screen system.

In addition, my chef can update dynamically all of the menu items and it is reflected instantly in the point of sale system. ?So price changes and item descriptions are instantly available to my service staff.

Small Business Trends: As the employees do their jobs, it updates the information and you can see it on your device?

George Page: Absolutely. ?A really cool feature of that is that I can be sitting here in my office on the farm, having FileMaker open, and watch sales tick away at the restaurant.

Small Business Trends: You believe handing over an iPad might be an incentive for employees?

George Page: Yes, I think the employees love it. They love the sleek sexiness of the interface.

My chef is classic. He doesn?t want to spend time on the computer. ?He wants to go and cook. ?He gets frustrated in trying to format the menu in Adobe Illustrator, trying to cut and paste fonts and items. It just drives him crazy.

Whereas, with this nice slick user interface, you have really cool things like a historic record of all of the menus. ?So he can easily do a quick find and say, ?Where is my menu from August 15 of last year?? ?Because he had a recipe on the menu that year that he?wants to replicate this year with fresh tomatoes.

Again, I had to just take away a lot of the clumsiness that technology sometimes puts in the way.

Small Business Trends: Where can people learn more about your business and how to get a meal?

George Page:?Go to Sea Breeze Farm. ? There is a tab to make reservations right online. We are a very charming little 15 minute ferry ride from Seattle, floating across the gorgeous Puget Sound. ?It is a pretty special little place.

World markets fall on signs of fading growth

BEIJING (AP) ? World markets fell Friday as disappointment over weak economic indicators from the United States, China and Europe offset hopes for more stimulus from central banks.

Oil fell below $96 a barrel after a member of the U.S. Federal Reserve's policymaking board dampened hopes for additional stimulus.

Japan's Nikkei 225 declined 1.2 percent to 9,070.76 and China's benchmark Shanghai Composite Index lost 1 percent to 2,092.1. Hong Kong's Hang Seng shed 1.3 percent to 19,880.03.

In Europe, Britain's FTSE 100 fell 0.1 percent to 5,768.68. Germany's DAX fell 0.3 percent to 6,928.79 while France's CAC-40 lost 0.6 percent to 3,413.65.

Wall Street headed for a marginally higher open. Dow Jones industrial futures rose slightly to 13,047 while S&P 500 futures were nearly unchanged at 1,400.20.

Traders were dismayed by U.S. data showing the number of people seeking unemployment assistance rose for a second straight week.

Markets that rose earlier after minutes of the Federal Reserve's last policy meeting showed bankers favored more stimulus fell after the president of the St. Louis Fed said officials were considering new data that might make further action unnecessary.

"There now once again appears to be a state of confusion as to what the market can expect from the Fed at its next meeting in mid-September," analyst Cameron Peacock of Australia's IG Markets said in a report.

Elsewhere in Asia, South Korea's Kospi declined 1.2 percent to 1,919.81, while Australia's S&P ASX 200 was off 0.8 percent at 4,349. India's Sensex shed 0.3 percent to 17,787.30.

In China, investors were disappointed by a survey this week that showed manufacturing activity shrank in August and new export orders fell.

Shanghai's closing was the lowest in 40 months. PetroChina Ltd., Asia's biggest oil and gas producer by volume, lost 0.3 percent after its second quarter gross margins were the lowest in three years. China Shenhua Energy Co., the nation's biggest coal producer, lost 1.7 percent and China Construction Bank Ltd., one of China's four major state-owned lenders, lost 0.8 percent.

"Investors prefer cash after the recent gains in some shares," said analyst Sun Chong at Sinolink Securities in Shanghai.
