Just Another iPhone Blog: Apple Begins Work to Upgrade Plaza Surrounding 5th Avenue Store, Glass Cube to be Temporarily Removed

ifoAppleStore is reporting that workers arrived overnight, and have fenced off an area around Apple?s iconic 5th Avenue store in Manhattan. Work has begun to remove the paver stones of the plaza area surrounding the store, and update them. The project will reportedly cost $6.6 million.

Where the story get?s marginally interesting, is that Apple will be taking down the iconic glass cube that stands over the entrance to the store, while work is being completed. It?s still unclear if Apple plans to replace the glass panels, make changes to the structure, or simply replace the structure as it was before, after work is completed. I would guess the latter.

This building is an icon, not just in the world of retail or Apple- It?s a landmark for Manhattan. That leads me to wonder how they will continue to operate the store while construction is completed. After all, construction is expected to wrap up in November, which is a long way off for the store.
